Brittany & Brandon | wedding pictures in rural Minnesota

For my sixth wedding within 22 days in the month of August, I traveled into southeastern Minnesota near the small town of Mabel – which is a polar opposite of the large metro areas of Chicago, IL & Indianapolis, IN that they now live between! What’s interesting, is that a number of events took place for not only for me to shoot this wedding, but for the actual wedding to take place! I came to understand that Brittany had been researching and getting a feel for the different wedding photographers out there. She was doing all of this before Brandon even proposed! Never hurts to be prepared, right?

So anyways, Brittany & I shared a few emails and that was around Thanksgiving last year. During this time, I booked up & wasn’t planning on taking on any more weddings for 2009. Then after Christmas, before New Year’s, I received an email from Brandon. He was going to propose during their New Year’s celebration. But he knew that Brittany had been “blog stalking” my site for some time as well as realizing I wasn’t planning on taking anymore weddings. After a few emails and a phone call or two, something inside told me to allow just one more wedding. Needless to say, it was sort of a blessing in disguise as I had one wedding postponed and one which no longer needed my services. Lesson be learned – follow your gut instinct. I’m glad I did. It was like it was meant to be…

I started out by finally meeting Brittany at her parent’s home. The kitchen was busy of final preparations before the ceremony. Meanwhile, Brittany and her sister shared the bathroom and put makeup on together. It gave me a sense that perhaps these two had done this before, but as children. As I carefully watched these two talk and laugh, it was almost like watching two little girls playing dress up. Whether or not they ever did or not, I guess I’ll never know. But in reality, this girl – now a woman – was becoming a bride right before my eyes…

As they finished up, they loaded up their car and headed to the church, which was located right over the rolling countryside and visible on the horizon from the house. As I walked up to the church, it struck me that it was going to be an absolutely picture perfect day…

We arrived before Brandon, so Brittany and her sister made their way downstairs to keep her out of his sight. They chose not to see each other prior to their wedding. Slowly but surely, bridal party members started to arrive and the bridesmaids began to fill the downstairs. So many things to be done, so many things to prepare, but yet time can seem to stand still. Like a simple glance between mother & daughter…

In the meantime, Brandon had arrived and was waiting upstairs in the sanctuary. As he waited, he received a gift & letter from Brittany. If you’ve ever watched someone read a letter from a loved one, you can almost feel & see what was written. Something tells me Brandon liked what he read…

At the same time, Brittany was safe from being seen…

no boys allowed

Next thing you know, its time for her to get her dress on. All the bridesmaids were ready. It was now her turn…

There was a calming presence as she was helped into her dress by her bridesmaids. Again, everything seemed to just fall into place (other than the fact she had to resort to a different pair of shoes) and she was ready…

In just a little bit, her bridesmaids made their way upstairs. After a hug from her other sister, her father arrived to walk her upstairs and to the ceremony…

One of the best moments of a wedding day is the anticipation of the groom seeing his bride for the first time. It was almost magical as the doors opened up, the blazing afternoon sunlight shined in and Brittany & her father stepped into the church…

As they entered, Brandon couldn’t take his eyes off of her or keep himself from smiling…

Most churches found in the countryside aren’t too big. It was standing room only at their wedding. Many of their family and friends came to celebrate their marriage…

After the ceremony, they made use of the beautiful weather and had their receiving line outside. The yard was buzzing in conversation…

After the guests made their way to Caledonia for the wedding reception, Brittany & Brandon spent some time with me and we proceeded to go to a farm for a little wedding day photo shoot. It was a perfect setting for them as they both grew up in rural Minnesota near farming communities. On this day, it was all about them and their love for each other…

Brandon could barely keep his eyes off of Brittany. And rightfully so. As we made our way to a different location, I spotted a location that would make a great portrait of Brittany for him. I’ll never forget his response when showing him this photo on my camera after I took it. I won’t repeat it here, but Brandon, this one’s for you…

After close to hour, it was time for us to go to the reception as well. They shared a kiss as they walked to the car…

We arrived and after dinner, they cut their cake and the servers brought in a number of different pies for the guests. They looked amazing…

It was then time for the toasts. Brittany’s sisters had some stories of Brandon, which put him on the spot, but everyone enjoyed their speeches…

And afterwards, hugs for everyone…

The first dance is always a wonderful moment at any wedding. Always so much love to be seen and felt…

After the first dances, before long it was time for the traditional bouquet and garter toss, which always fills the dance floor. All the single ladies didn’t hesitate for their chance to catch the bouquet. These ladies were rocking the dancefloor!!

It was just one of those wedding days were everything fell into place. Family, friends and love. Couldn’t have asked for a better day or a better couple. I’m glad everything worked as it did. Just like it was meant to be. Congratulations to you again, Brittany & Brandon. May you remember the love you both felt on that day in August and may that love for each other grow each & every day…
