Nicole & Keith wedding photographer – New Richmond, WI

July 19th, 2009 – I traveled north for the wedding of Nicole & Keith at the Heritage Center in New Richmond, Wisconsin. It was a nice wedding, at a great ceremony location, filled with loving family members and friends. There was little scare of some severe weather & tornado warnings which passed through prior & during the wedding ceremony, but as soon as they were married the sun came out and shined down on the newly married couple.

Prior to the storm, it was a really beautiful summer day. It was little humid, but we were able to get a lot of photos done prior to the wedding ceremony. Nicole & Keith chose to see each other beforehand with a private & intimate meeting between them.

Here we have lovely Nicole in her beautiful beaded lace wedding dress & birdcage veil walking to see Keith for the first time on their wedding day…

It was a very tender moment between them both…

As I previously posted, the New Richmond Heritage Center looked like a great place for wedding portraits and it was! Here’s a photo on the porch of the log cabin located there…

Nicole was all smiles whenever she was near Keith…

We headed back to start on bridal party photos and that’s when the skies starting getting dark. While the bridesmaids were rounding up some umbrellas, I had to get some portraits of Nicole and her birdcage veil. She looked beautiful as you can see in this black & white photo…

I really like how the digital treatment affects the mood of these next two photos…

We had to go into the chapel to finish up the bridal party & family portraits as the rain started to pour down. Before we knew it, it was time for the wedding ceremony to begin. I captured this great moment of Nicole and her father after he walked her down the aisle…

The ceremony was sealed with a kiss…

We then headed up the road to Suzanna’s Restaurant & Banquet Center for the wedding reception. While stopping at the bar before entering the reception, Nicole & Keith practiced on their moves for their first dance…

Dinner was served, speeches & toasts were given, the cake was cut and it was time for the dance to begin. Their first dance was very romantic…

It was a great end to a great wedding for this great couple. Once again, a storm will not dampen the love & happiness that two people can share. I thank you both, Nicole & Keith, for having me as your wedding photographer. I hope your having a blast on your honeymoon and I wish you both the best!

Melanie & Brian wedding photographer – Winona, MN

July 12th, 2008 – As I had mentioned before, the wedding from this past Saturday was beautiful. With the wedding ceremony taking place on the campus of Winona State University at the Alumni Gazebo, surrounded by some of the best landscaping you’ll see in Winona – paver walkways, coy pond, with numerous flower plots, under perfect weather consisting of bright blue skies, wispy clouds, a bright shining sun and on top of that was a great bridal party with each of the bridesmaids wearing different pastel colors matching the groomsmen vests.

All of that and I haven’t even gotten to the most important, brightest part of the day – the bride & groom! They both attended & graduated from WSU with education majors. As nice as these two were, I know they’ll make great teachers! Melanie already teaches for a nearby local elementary school.

Enough of my rambling again – the pictures will speak for themselves of this beautiful wedding…

The flowers nice and bright from Nola’s Flowers here in Winona, decorated with Melanie’s favorite little bug – butterflies…

*please note* – the rest of the photos posted, I’ve added a nice, warm, digital enhancement photo treatment which I’ve created, I hope you enjoy!

They both decided to see each other prior to the wedding and we managed to get most of the portraits done prior to the ceremony…

Brian and the guys were pretty laid back…

After the wedding portraits, it was time for the ceremony to begin. Everyone was patiently waiting…

Winona MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

As I mentioned before, it was just a beautiful day and the Alumni Gazebo made an equally beautiful location for a wedding …

Ready to share his vows to her…

After exchanging their vows and pouring sand into a vase representing their union to each other, they kissed and walked down the path on their first walk as husband & wife…

Winona MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After the ceremony, we took some time to create some more unique wedding portraits. This one is different than most you’ll see, but I like the effect and wanted to share…

Winona MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

We then headed to the Riverport Inn & Suites here in Winona for the reception. The main thing that stood out was the cake – they used a bunch of cupcakes, so everyone had their own little wedding cake…

Winona MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Even though I was there for only a short time, it was a wonderful wedding for me to be apart of and wish you both the best of futures together, Melanie & Brian! Thank you for having me as your wedding photographer!

Happy 4th of July! (and anniversary)

I’m wishing everyone a safe & happy Fourth of July holiday weekend!

To all of my past, present & future photography clients – I will be out of town through the weekend and might not have the greatest cell phone reception. Please feel free to contact me by email in the meantime and I will be returning messages/emails on Monday, the 7th.

Now I don’t normally post anniversary announcements (although, I think I’ll start!), however, this one ties in with the holiday! I just want to wish Amy & Anthony a happy 1st anniversary today! I was their wedding photographer last year, near the Twin Cities in Excelsior, on Lake Minnetonka on the Fourth of July. It was a really special wedding to be a part of as their wedding photographer.

Shannon & Jon wedding photographer – La Crescent & Caledonia MN

June 28th, 2008 – I was the wedding photographer for another Shannon this past weekend! As some of you know, my wife & I have the same first name, Shannon. This is one of the main reasons I prefer to go by just “Porter”. But the bride’s name was Shannon and one of the bridesmaid’s names was Shannon as well!!

But anyways, last weekend’s wedding was once again another fun wedding to be a part of. The bridal/wedding party was huge – the more the merrier, I say! – and a good time was had by all. For pictures, we started out at Crucifixion Church in La Crescent, MN and after the wedding ceremony, we stopped at a few different locations for some more fun wedding photos. But before I get ahead of myself, let’s start out with a preview of some of their wedding photography from their wedding day!

They started out by staging a “first glimpse” of each other as we planned to get most of the formal wedding pictures done prior to the ceremony. Here we have Jon checking out his lovely, soon-to-be wife, Shannon…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After getting through the wedding party formals, it allowed me to have some time with just the two of them before we started with the family portrait formals. The church has two staircases near the back of the church that caught my eye and I like how the lines in this enhanced photo draws your eyes to Shannon & Jon…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

They even brought their cute little puppy for some photos as well…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

While waiting for the guests to be seated before the wedding ceremony, I found Shannon trying to get a peek at who was arriving from her dressing room window in this enhanced photo…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

The weather managed to rain a little bit during photos, but for the ceremony, the sun was shining bright! Here’s a great shot of her wedding dress while waiting with her bridesmaids waiting outside before entering the church for the ceremony…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

The wedding went as planned and during the receiving line, Shannon’s brother (with an usher & a few guests) were having a blast making a sign for the back of the bus…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

We then proceeded the lookout above La Crescent, which overlooks the Mississippi River valley, along with the clouds in the bright blue sky, made for a great portrait location…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After leaving the lookout, we headed to Hokah, MN where Jon was a volunteer firefighter. It made for some great themed pictures too! Everyone had a great time from all the smiles I saw…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

It was then off to Caledonia, MN where the reception was held. Here’s a picture of the Best Man getting the better of Jon during “the kiss” while Shannon was visiting with guests..

(no groom was harmed in the making of this photo)

Here’s one of my favorites from the day. I love it when I get the opportunity to create memorable wedding photos for my clients…

MN wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

It was a great wedding to be a part of and I thank you both for having me as your wedding photographer to document you wedding, Shannon & Jon! I wish you both the best and a safe trip back to Idaho. Congratulations again, to you both!

Jolene & Paul wedding photographer – Pine Creek & Arcadia WI

June 21, 2008 – This wedding was fun to be a part of as it took place in a small rural farming town of Pine Creek, Wisconsin. It was neat to see the rolling hillsides and farms along the way on such a beautiful summer day. I had shot Jolene & Paul’s engagement portraits earlier this year in April. Its always pretty neat to see a relationship come full circle from an engagement session to the wedding day itself.

The flowers in Jolene’s & bridesmaids’ bouquets helped show the colors of the season…

We started with the beautiful Jolene and her equally beautiful bridesmaids as Jolene did not see Paul prior to the wedding…

Paul had his hands full with a fun group of guys to stand on his side as groomsmen & ushers…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Here’s a nice moment I captured between mother and daughter prior to the wedding ceremony…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Here’s a photo with some slight duotone treatment applied…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

During the wedding ceremony, the Best Man appeared to have “lost” the rings when asked for them. The groomsman behind him had them, but I think it was a little plan between the two to create some drama for the couple before they exchanged vows…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

It really was a beautiful day for a wedding…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

I finished up with the family photos after the ceremony and then moved on to some time with just Jolene & Paul. This is my favorite time with the bride & groom at all of my weddings…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After that, they headed down to meet their wedding party at Margaret’s, an old tavern that’s apparently been in Pine Creek for years. I snapped a few shots as they walked away and here’s one that’s digitally enhanced…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After a drink, we then made our way to the wedding reception at the Lion’s Pavilion located in Memorial Park in Arcadia, WI. The Lion’s Pavilion was packed full of happy guests and a happy couple as well…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After the dinner, they cut the cake and once again, the bride got the best of the groom when having their first piece of cake together…

WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

So many smiles were seen at this wedding and it was great to see. I look forward to meeting other happy couple’s in the future and documenting the smiles on their wedding day as their wedding photographer. I wish you both the best, Jolene & Paul, and thank you for having me share your beautiful wedding day!

Maria & Francis wedding photographer – La Crosse, WI

June 14, 2008 – Saturday’s wedding was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI. This was another great wedding to be a part of and to photograph! This couple was great, as was their bridal party, the church had some neat locations for photos (which you’ll see soon!) and the weather was perfect. We had plenty of time for photos before & after the ceremony as Maria & Francis decided not to see each other before the ceremony. And on that note…

…here we have the lucky groom, Francis, and his groomsmen…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After that, Francis was sent downstairs so he didn’t see Maria as I photographed her and the bridesmaids. Here’s a photo I like which was caught at just the right moment…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

I started with Maria to get some beautiful bridal portraits of her. Remember I mentioned that there was some cool locations at the church? Well, there was this wall, made of completely glass block, that I had to get some photos by. Here are some of my favorites from there with a little post processing done…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

And here we have Maria and her wonderful bridesmaids…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

If you’ve checked out some of my wedding photography from past weddings, you’ll know that I’ve had pets (basically just dogs – never had any cats, etc…) that were incorporated into the wedding. Maria & Francis have a Bullmastiff, Cody (hope I spelled it right, but he makes my Boxer look puny!) bring the rings down the aisle during the ceremony. Here’s when he showed up prior to the ceremony as Francis looks on…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

And then it was time for the ceremony and when Maria walked down the aisle, the stained glass windows on the side of the church created an awesome effect on her & her veil. She was most definitely in the spotlight…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Their wedding ceremony was nice, with live acoustic guitar music solos, personalized poems and their dog bringing the rings as he did when Francis proposed, it made the ceremony even more special for them. After the ceremony we got through the family portraits & wedding party photos and then it was time for some photos of just the two of them.

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

The wedding reception was being held at the La Crosse Center Ballroom and before going there, we headed to Riverside Park and created some awesome outdoor photos. These next two photos have been post processed, but they make use of Maria’s beautiful veil…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

…that last one’s smokin hot!!

Then we were off to the La Crosse Center Ballroom for the reception and here’s a photo I have to share of the Best Man’s speech that he wrote prior to the ceremony. He said he worked real hard on it and showed it to the crowd. He was cracking everyone up…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After the dinner, there was a slideshow and then it was time for the first dance. Another special moment as well…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Then the party got started with a little help from Maria and her friends…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

…even the little ones were gettin’ down…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

A little later, they had the Grand March, which led to the bouquet & garter toss. Francis had to shake his stuff to the song “The Stripper”, by David Rose, before being allowed to attempt to remove the garter. Made for some fun photos too…
La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Maria had a surprise in store for Francis (which I knew about – sorry Francis!) for when he did the traditional removal of her garter. Apparently, he has some cowboy boots which she don’t like, so she was going to pay him back by surprising him with some boots of her own. His expression was priceless and the guests loved every second of it…

It was a long day of wedding photography, but it was well worth it. I was glad I was able to be of service to you both as your wedding photographer and wish you both safe trip to Mexico along with a long, happy, healthy future together!

Congrats to you both Maria & Francis!

Emily & Nathan wedding photographer – Onalaska & La Crosse WI

June 8th, 2008 – The second wedding I photographed of the weekend was held in Onalaska, WI. The main thing that was unique about Emily & Nathan’s wedding was that both of their dads are pastors. They both were Officiants in the wedding as well. They also have other talented family members. Nathan’s cousin played the piano during the wedding and Emily’s sisters sang & two of the sisters played guitar and keyboard. You could tell these two had very close families and the family members had special roles during the wedding.

Let’s check out some their photos, huh?! I started with Nathan and the groomsmen as Nathan & Emily chose not to see each other until the ceremony. Here’s Nathan and the guys walking back in from some outdoor photos…

and a portrait of Nathan…

Onalaska WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

Emily sneaked in while I was shooting the guys and once we were done, Nate had to go hide and was then Emily and the bridesmaids turn for photos. Here’s a portrait of Emily…

Onalaska WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

We got through the photos and before you knew it, guests were arriving and the ceremony was about to begin. As I mentioned before, Emily’s sisters were musically talented and one of them played the guitar and was also the Matron of Honor…

Onalaska WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

While the wedding guests were being seated, I caught Emily peeking through a window…

Onalaska WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

The wedding ceremony began and they were the center of attention. I thought this SOOC photo represented that well. I always try to find a good time to do this effect in camera during wedding coverage…

Katie & Richard wedding photographer – La Crosse WI & West Salem WI

June 7th, 2008 – The first wedding of the weekend was held in La Crosse WI at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for Katie & Richard. There was plenty of smiling faces, laughter and happiness to go around, considering that there was severe weather lurking in the area. The was a little rain, here and there, during and after the wedding ceremony, but it was upon arriving to the wedding reception at Maple Grove Country Club when real weather came into play.

Let’s just say my walk (more like a sprint) to the door from my car left me completely soaked from head to toe. Yes, I had an umbrella. But when there’s approximately 50 mph winds, blowing every single drop of rain in the air because there was a tornado about a mile away from the reception, conveniently at the same exact time I parked my car – you’re bound to get a little wet. I did finally dry off by the time I was done! ; )

But anyways, like I said, the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of Katie & Richard, let alone their bridal party, family and guests. Let’s check out some photos from their beautiful wedding!

Preparation for a wedding is an important part of a wedding day. Without getting ready, the brides and grooms wouldn’t look as sharp as they do! Here’s Katie, with her wonderful bridesmaids, putting on her beautiful wedding dress.

They were all smiles after the wedding!

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After the wedding, they headed to Features Sports Bar & Grill, in West Salem, for a pre-celebration drink with the bridal party. They managed to fit in a kiss as they left…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

As we left is when the storm moved in and the tornado touched down near Maple Grove Country Club as we arrived. But as soon as it came through, it was gone and the wedding celebration continued!

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

After the dinner and a little mingling, the dance began with the traditional first dance as husband wife…

La Crosse WI wedding photographer | Shannon Porter Photography

All eyes were on them, along with a few who wanted to join them towards the end of their dance…

The dance was sealed with a kiss…

It just goes to show that even some of the biggest storms will not prevent true love and I was happy to be a part your wedding as your wedding photographer Katie & Richard. I wish the both of you the best!!!

Then there’s Baxter… the smallest member of the wedding party…

For those of you who were there, you know who Baxter is. I think Baxter almost stole the show before/during/after the wedding! For those of you who weren’t there, here’s a photo of Baxter looking sharp…

…pretty damn cute, huh??

After photos, wedding guests began to arrive and next thing you know the ceremony began. Again, being Memorial Day weekend, I thought this was very fitting as well…

It goes to show that family IS ALWAYS important.

The ceremony was full of smiles and after they were finished with their receiving line, the guests showered them with candy hearts…

After that, Josh & his mother had their special dance – or multiple dances – as it seemed they danced about every dance known! They had a really good time with a little bit of air guitar action…
