what do you see if you “read between the lines”???
Nearly two weeks ago, I traveled down through rural Minnesota to Caledonia and met with my future wedding clients Stephanie & Geoff for their engagement pictures. They love the outdoors so we planned to go to Beaver Creek Valley State Park for a perfect natural backdrop.
We crossed creeks and climbed rocky terrain, but I think it was totally worth it! What do you think?

I look forward to the wedding in October you two!!!
…but we were smiling & laughing before & after we created it!!!
Special thanks to my great clients, Amber & Jordan, for trying something different!!! More from your wedding day coming soon!
Love is a beautiful & powerful thing. Can it possibly be described in one word though? Let’s see.

January 10th, 2009 – I was excited to get back out and shoot on Saturday, especially since I don’t shoot too much in the winter. But after last weekend’s wedding, it stirred up the urge to shoot some more. After a few emails with Michaela, we set a date, found a meeting place and crossed my fingers we didn’t have a blizzard or another ice storm! The sun was out, but you have to remember it is January…
…in Minnesota. It was around 15-20 degrees with a pretty chilly wind. It was cold.
Not your ideal weather & temperatures for outdoor pictures, but Michaela and Tim were troopers!! We had a great time! Holding each other close, they kept each other warm, like to people in love should do anyways. Spending that time together really showed me the love they have for each other. A lot can be said when you see a woman smile so much when she’s around her man. Michaela was constantly smiling. I could feel the love… what an awesome thing to see & feel.
October 12th, 2008 – My third engagement session of the weekend was right in downtown La Crosse, WI with a very fun couple. Vanessa & Andy are going to have a HUGE wedding party as there will be 10 bridesmaids & groomsmen on each side! That doesn’t include ushers, flower girl, ring bearer & mini bride…
If their wedding party is anything like Vanessa & Andy, which I’m sure they are, this will be one wedding to remember! They are very down to earth and have so much fun when they’re together. Always laughing & smiling. The best part – they are two people in love.
We chose the downtown setting as they were looking for a different, more unique look to their engagement photos. They didn’t want to go to Riverside Park or have the autumn/fall themed look to their photos. That’s when I suggested a more urban look with downtown La Crosse. The results turned out AWESOME!
October 10th, 2008 – My first of three wedding engagement portrait sessions over this past weekend took place near St. Cloud, MN in St. Joseph, MN on the campus St. John’s University where Rebecca & James met and fell in love. I think its great to go somewhere for portraits that has a special meaning to my clients. I feel it gives photos even more meaning for my clients. These two were great and we had fun during their session. I even got a small guided tour of St. John’s campus while shooting – thanks James!
Let’s check out some of their pics from a beautiful, fall Friday evening….
The leaves are truly beautiful at this time of year in Minnesota…
They really “pop” on this digitally enhanced image…
We then traveled over to the College of St. Benedict to shoot at the library as that was where James proposed to Rebecca by strategically placing a hollowed out book on the shelf with her ring and a photo of the two of them. (take notes guys!!) We shot at the exact spot. It was pretty fun shooting in a place that you’re supposed to be quiet in. All you hear is the sound of the shutter from the camera as it echoes through the library. ; )
It was a pleasure to meet you both and can’t wait for your wedding next year, Rebecca & James!
October 2nd, 2008 – I’m pleased to announce that one of my photos has been published in a newly released book, “The Run” – a book personal reflections on Winona State Men’s Basketball team’s championship seasons, 2006 – 2008 by Tim Hatfield. Click on the book’s photo to order it directly from Winona State University…
It was an honor to have been able to take the photo of Jonte Flowers & John Smith for a fundraiser for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Winona, but then to have it published in a book documenting the team’s championship run through other people’s eyes – which made Winona, Minnesota so proud – is very special in itself. I’m happy to be able to share my photography with others for them to enjoy.
