engagements on the Mississippi River – Buena Vista Park – Kate & Gracie’s Restaurant

It was great to go on a little boat ride on the Mississippi River with Robin & Jerad for their engagement session. I wish more clients would go out on the river! After the river we headed up to Buena Vista Park overlooking the river valley and we finished up at Kate & Gracie’s Restaurant, which has a special place in their hearts. I’m looking forward to the wedding in 2011 as I know it’ll be a blast!

Here’s a sampling of their session…

June 26th, 2009 – I traveled to the Twin Cities for an outdoor wedding at Mississippi Dunes Golf Course in Cottage Grove, MN. Mississippi Dunes is located right off of the Mississippi River and makes for a beautiful backdrop for a wedding.

Tera & Mitch wedding photographer | Wabasha, Minnesota

Last weekend’s wedding in Wabasha, MN provided not only two people in love, but many familiar faces! One of the best things for me when shooting a wedding is seeing old friends. It’s really neat to see if & how people have changed and to hear stories from years past as well as seeing the beginnings of new families forming.

When you shoot the wedding for the youngest brother of three of your good friends, chances are likely you get all of the above plus some. Good times were had by all. Myself included.

The day started off at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with Tera & Mitch seeing each other for the first time. It was a very special moment for them both…

After getting through formals and family portraits, it was time to wait for the beginning of the wedding ceremony. I love this moment between Mitch and his flower girl, also their beautiful young daughter…

Soon after, everyone gathered outside the front of the church for the processional. Tera was stunning.

During the processional, especially when there’s children involved, usually something ridiculously cute happens. I love these next two photos. Many things are happening, so let me explain.

First, you have the flower girl checking out all of the guests on the way down the aisle, trying to decide who to personally hand deliver a flower to. Second, the ring bearer was perhaps a little shy & nervous walking in front of everyone in the church. Third, Tera’s father was trying to get them both to walk down a little bit faster. Fourth, you can see Tera in the background peeking out on the right hand side of the doorway, admiring her little girl. (it WAS pretty darn cute) Fifth, you see the little outstretched arm of a younger guest calling for a flower…

Needless to say, that young guest got her wish…

Their daughter was very patiently waiting during the ceremony as well…

Soon after, the ceremony was done and the celebration began. One of the stops prior to the reception was at Slippery’s Restaurant and since the weather took a magnificent turn for the better, we took advantage of it on the Mississippi River.

After a stop in Kellogg for a couple drinks and some dancing with “Me and Bobby McGee”, we were off to the wedding reception at Whipporwill Ranch Kampground Ballroom near Theilman, MN. They started things off with the cutting of the cake and a sneak-attack smashing of it…

Plenty of fun was going around at the head table…

After dinner, they started to clear the dance floor and Tera & her father shared a moment together…

and then they had their first dance to start an evening of dancing with their wedding guests. You can see & feel the love in her face…

… and that’s what it’s all about. Love.

It really was a beautiful wedding and I thank you both for having me as your wedding photographer. I wish you both many more happy years to come! Congrats again Tera & Mitch!!!

Lindsay & Scott wedding photographer – La Crosse, Wisconsin

October 4th, 2008 – It was a beautiful Autumn day and just perfect for an outdoor wedding at the International Gardens at Riverside Park in La Crosse, Wisconsin. While you could hear the sounds & music from Oktoberfest a few blocks away, you could tell that the Fall season was upon us. Almost a year to the day, Scott had surprised and proposed to Lindsay at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona, MN – where they have a photo and plaque displayed there. Scott wanted me to shoot the proposal for him that day, however, I had a wedding already booked for that day. No matter, their wedding was a beautiful one, in a beautiful setting, with beautiful weather, filled with family & close friends and most of all – two people in love.

I started with Scott and the groomsmen as Lindsay was arriving at the start of the cermony. Here is Scott’s best man getting his collar adjusted by Lindsay’s brother, who was her “man of honor”…

If you ever go to Riverside Park, you need to visit the International Gardens, which is located on the north end of the Park. It’s a beautifully landscaped area. The scene of the ceremony was very natural…

They both wrote letters to each other to be read by the officiant during the ceremony. Such beautiful words were read and tears of happiness ran down Lindsay’s cheek while Scott’s letter was read to her…

After the ceremony, we finished up pictures with the bridal party and family. While taking Lindsay & Scott’s portraits, I noticed the sun shining between them after I had told them to hold hands. The end result is a very beautiful image…

Even though the leaves still hadn’t completely changed, there was still a few which had already fallen off the trees, which made for a perfect Autumn themed portrait…

They then boarded the La Crosse Queen for their wedding reception paddleboat cruise. It was a brisk, autumn evening on the Mississippi River, however it did not stop the guests from having a wonderful time. Whether inside or out, everyone had a great time celebrating Lindsay & Scott’s marriage. Here’s a shot of their first dance…

Then a good amount of people headed to the upper level and braved the cool autumn night air and danced the night away as we floated up & down the Mississippi River until we docked back at the La Crosse levee.

I was pleased to be a part of your beautiful wedding, Lindsay & Scott. I wish you both many more days of happiness & love together and hope every day is the next best day for each of you!

Janelle & Steve wedding photographer – Winona, MN & La Crosse, WI

September 20th, 2008 – I drove down to the Winona Levee to board the Julia Belle Swain for the wedding of Janelle & Steve. It was a picture perfect day which made for a great day for a wedding as well as a ride on a paddleboat ride up & down the Mississippi River.

It’s not every day you go on a ride in a paddleboat and then to have your wedding on one is pretty cool! It was a wedding consisting of close family and friends. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate your wedding while going for a paddleboat cruise with the ones you love most.

Here are a few photos from their beautiful wedding day…

The story of how Steve proposed was very special as well. As the story goes, Janelle was unable to wear rings to work so she told Steve that she just wanted a $9.99 ring from Wal-Mart. He said once he found $9.99 worth of pennies, only face up, he would propose. The day of his proposal he picked her up and they went out to eat. As they returned to the vehicle, Steve had found a penny on the ground. Janelle had mentioned that he should count up his pennies to see where he was at. As they arrived at her apartment, to Janelle’s surprise, there was $9.98 worth of pennies, face up, in a heart shape on her table. Steve placed the last needed face-up penny to the heart shape and knelt down on one knee to propose…

Teresa & Scott wedding photographer – Wabasha, MN

This past Saturday, September 29th, I was in my old “stomping grounds” of Wabasha, MN for a wedding at St. Felix Church. I graduated from Wabasha-Kellogg High School and while I don’t get up there that much, it was nice to visit and of course, see some familiar faces. Teresa & Scott were happily married and the rain stopped as the ceremony finished. And actually, as I write this, I realize that I forgot my umbrella there… oh well. It was a great day and a great celebration for them. Here’s some photos of their special wedding day.

It appears that the ring bearer was helping a little “too much” for the flower girl’s liking…

Teresa had a guest go get her two chihuahuas and the seamstress who altered the dresses, had some extra material left over, so she made Otis a tie. The other pup, had a dress made for her! Below is Otis and his tie…
