Rosemount Minnesota HS senior portrait photographer

September 4th, 2008 – I traveled towards the Twin Cities to meet with a Rosemount high school senior at Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan, MN for a senior portrait session. I was greeted by the senior’s family near the entrance of the park. Her father and little brother had to leave for hockey practice, so after taking a quick family portrait, we started in on the senior’s portrait session. There were many locations that could be used for backdrops, so we made use of them all. Here are a few pictures from this senior portrait session …

She was an animal lover as well and brought a little bunny for a few photos. His name was “Spike”…

As the sun set, the clouds & sky had a beautiful, colorful tone to them and made for a nice contrast with the bright flowers….

August 4th, 2008 – I had a senior portrait session for a nice young man here in Winona, Minnesota. We planned to make three stops for his portrait settings. I met this senior at the Winona Municipal Airport – Max Conrad Field as he had an interest in airplanes. The next stop was a tennis court for some tennis-themed photos. After that, we headed up to Garvin Heights lookout for a more natural backdrop. He also liked gaming, so we made sure to have a little fun with a gamer-themed photo. Here are some photos from his senior portrait session:

Senior portrait photographer in La Crosse, Wisconsin

July 23rd, 2009 – I traveled down to Pettibone Park in La Crosse, WI to shoot some high school senior portraits for a nice young lady who was actually from the state of New York. She was in Wisconsin visiting her family who lives in Wisconsin over her summer vacation. So before she went vacation to Florida with her family, we managed to fit in an outdoor senior portrait session as she was headed back to New York after her family vacation. Here’s a sample of the photos we took:

Rochester, MN high school senior portrait photography

Yesterday, May 20th, 2008 – I photographed some senior portraits for a Rochester Century High School senior at Silver Lake Park in Rochester, MN. It was a nice sunny afternoon and the park was a nice setting for photos. The senior liked to write and golf, so we incorporated those two things into some of the photos. Here’s some photos from yesterday:

Minneapolis high school senior portrait – 4.30

I had the pleasure of shooting some senior portraits in and around downtown Minneapolis with a great young lady. It was a perfect, Minnesota day in the spring. This portrait session was great for a number of reasons:

  • beautiful young lady, very stylish, who was comfortable in front of the camera
  • she had an awesome wardrobe
  • she was looking for original, one of kind photos
  • Minneapolis is full of unique locations
  • the weather was perfect, with a slight breeze

But enough of me, rambling – again… on to some photos! All photos posted are SOOC.

The first location was a grungy railroad tressel. It was sweet! The contrast was awesome!

The sun made for the best lighting too…

We went down by 1st Avenue & Hennepin in downtown Minneapolis after an outfit change and took some really cool shots by a really cool wall and old alley. Check em out!

Before we left though, I had an idea. See if you like it…

Then back to the her condo for the last outfit change and up to the rooftop. Check out the view of Minneapolis! Again, another contrast – between her & her flowing dress and the sharp angles & brick buildings.

and to finish off the shoot, there was this wall that provided a nice matching color, along with contrast, texture and of course, the senior.

I definitely hope to do more senior portrait photography in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. I look forward to it!

High school senior portrait with ATTITUDE – not like your parent’s senior portrait!

Ok, the following senior portrait is a combination of me joking around during the senior portrait shoot and then having the senior thinking it would be a cool idea!

This is a another shot of a senior from the Winona High School student who is also a very talented musician that plays the drums. While he was drumming, I had him create some movement while he played and started to play some hardcore beats. We’re not talking Sinatra here, we’re talking more like Korn, Rage Against the Machine or Slipknot. So as he thrashed on the drums, I snapped a number of photos.

As I checked the end results, the movement of his head created a surreal look – almost like he could be breathing fire or something along those lines. I mentioned this to him as I showed him the photo in the camera and he said, “Do it!” Well, myself having a few Photoshop tricks up my sleeve, I did. Here’s the end result:

Now I know that this isn’t for everyone, but it was right up this high school senior’s alley. This was his favorite photo I created for him. I look forward to creating more custom portraits for my future senior portrait clients! With or without the fire!

Custom high school Senior portrait – Winona, MN

In January, I shot an outdoor high school senior portrait for a winter theme here in Winona, MN. It was pretty cold outside, so we didn’t have much time. I’m posting a final processed portrait with a texture applied to give the photo a more creative, modern look that my senior photography clients are looking for in their prints.

Finished custom high school senior portrait – Winona, MN

At the end of January, I had the opportunity to explore some different portrait & photo post processing techniques while taking some senior portraits with a high school senior portrait client here in Winona, MN.

The senior is a very talented musician and he has his own drum set at home. I knew this ahead of time and I wanted to do a senior portrait that fit his style and that pushed the envelope of your typical senior portrait.

I’m not talking the old-school Olan Mills style of headshot, with the oval-shaped side profile photo in the upper corner, that probably most senior’s parents had taken when they graduated high school. I’m talking a distinctive, powerful pose and post-processed treated photo that matched the sound of the high-hats, cymbals, snare and pounding of the double bass.

I’m interested in hearing what other senior’s interests are so I can come up with their own striking, one-of-a-kind high school senior portrait.
