Yes, it’s officially true.
I can actually say I won an award in an international wedding photography contest.
I placed 20th in the “Getting Ready” category in the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association’s (AGWPJA) 2009 1st Quarter contest. It was the first contest of the year. The award-winning image was from my April 4th, 2009 wedding in Minnetonka, MN.
I’ve never entered any of my wedding photos in any contest before and knowing I placed in the Top 20 amongst hundreds of other talented wedding photographers in the world – well, it makes me feel pretty good about what I do for my clients.
What a great wedding last Saturday! Have you ever had that feeling when you know when something just feels right? Read on…
I traveled up to the Twin Cities area to Minnetonka, MN for the wedding ceremony at The Marsh. Before we got started with some of the formal wedding portraits, I took turns shooting Kaydee with her bridesmaids and Per with his groomsmen & ushers while they were getting ready. When I met Kaydee for the first time, I was greeted with her beautiful, smiling face as she & her bridesmaids added some final touches. She had a very elegant hairstyle combined with an ornate hairpiece…
Here’s one little preview of the wedding photos from last weekend’s wedding in Minnetonka, MN. It was taken during a stop near the docks & shoreline at Gray’s Bay in Lake Minnetonka after the wedding ceremony at The Marsh before we arrived at The Carlson Towers Rotunda for the beautiful wedding reception…
Check back soon for more details and pictures from this wonderful wedding near the Twin Cities!
January 10th, 2009 – I was excited to get back out and shoot on Saturday, especially since I don’t shoot too much in the winter. But after last weekend’s wedding, it stirred up the urge to shoot some more. After a few emails with Michaela, we set a date, found a meeting place and crossed my fingers we didn’t have a blizzard or another ice storm! The sun was out, but you have to remember it is January…
…in Minnesota. It was around 15-20 degrees with a pretty chilly wind. It was cold.
Not your ideal weather & temperatures for outdoor pictures, but Michaela and Tim were troopers!! We had a great time! Holding each other close, they kept each other warm, like to people in love should do anyways. Spending that time together really showed me the love they have for each other. A lot can be said when you see a woman smile so much when she’s around her man. Michaela was constantly smiling. I could feel the love… what an awesome thing to see & feel.
September 6th, 2008 – I traveled to the Twin Cities metro area to Wayzata, MN to photograph the wedding of Shawna & Kyle at Wayzata Redeemer Lutheran Church. Before I get into photos from the day, I think everyone should know their story. It’s a love story 13 years in the making. Read for yourself as told on their wedding site…
13 years ago… Shawna’s story
When my favorite teacher, Mr. Althouse’s son walked through his classroom’s door… At 13 years old, I knew I was in love. Kyle was all I thought about, for years. Ask anyone! My mom still remembers me saying “I’m going to marry him”! Some would call it ‘obsessed’ I call it dedication The dark hair and dark eyes, made me melt. Any time I was around him, my heart fluttered like butterflies. Through all the years of such feelings and being too nervous to tell him, I never figured he felt the same. During my sophomore year of high school, my family announced we would be moving. By this time Kyle and I were pretty good friends, but the distance did us in- I let go of the dream that anything more would come to be. After the move and in to college, I heard from some mutual friends, his mom (our high school secretary), and Kyle once or twice. Even though the communication was lost, through the years, I never lost that feeling. No one compared to the boy I fell in love with so many years earlier.
13 years ago… Kyle’s story
Well, I’ll never be able to top Shawna’s story but here goes….
I think I first noticed Shawna in my dad’s classroom at some point during our 6th grade year. I will admit that I had no idea how to talk to a girl at that age. Well eventually over the years in middle school we started talking and hanging out together. I was to nervous to ever ask her to be my “girlfriend” at the time. This went on for years as I was hopefully waiting for her to ask me out, I know it’s pathetic, but it never did happen. Then came the big move. Shawna’s family moved to Rogers and I learned she was going to Elk River High School. I figured it wasn’t meant to be and I moved on. (Stupid huh) I did learn some things along the way about Shawna that she had failed to tell me before she moved away. During the time in middle school she had 1.Named our children 2.Practiced signing Shawna Althouse instead of Brunelle. 3.I’m sure she planned our wedding 100 different times. Well when I heard these things I just laughed. Little did I know…….

Rockin’ Rogers Days was the event we had all been looking forward to all summer. Single and not looking for love, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be running in to- you know who! I stopped dead in my tracks… my heart fluttered just like it had way back then! I even spilled my beer… I was close to speechless. I gave my mom my beer, drug my friend Cassidy with me… and walked over to Kyle. I don’t know where I got the nerve to do it! After a few minutes of re-connecting, he asked for my phone number. Texted me the next day to say how nice it was to see me and how he hoped we’d be able to keep in touch- for real this time. After a couple months of texts… We took a chance on the dream again.
Here we are 2 years later, living in our first home, and planning our wedding, 13 years in the making.
As many of you have heard me say… “Everything happens for a reason”
We know we have been put on this earth for one another, and we couldn’t be happier.
13 years later… told by Kyle
I still remember the day as if it were yesterday. A buddy and I decided to go see The Johnny Holm Band play up in Rogers. We were going up there with my sister and Brother-in-law. We were having a great time listening to music and drinking beer. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, someone tapped on my shoulder. I’m not gonna lie, when I first turned around and saw the most beautiful girl standing there, I was certain she was going to say “oops sorry I thought you were someone else.” By the time my brain was functioning again I realized who it was. I couldn’t beleive that after 10 years I was reunited with Shawna. There was a little small talk and to tell you the truth I wasn’t listening to a word she was saying. All I could think of was “You can’t let her slip away again….GET HER NUMBER!!” Well she gave me her number and I was almost certain she gave me a fake number. How could someone this beautiful actually give me her number. Well needless to say it was the right number and we texted back and forth for a couple months (which she hated) We finally decided to go on our “First Date” and I will admit after that I never wanted to be apart again.
I can’t tell you how much I am in love with Shawna! She is my world and always will be!! Somedays I still can’t beleive that I get to spend the rest of my life with her!
What a story, huh?!?! And with that, I share with you the photos of true love, 13 years in the making…
